GSoC 2010 – I’m in!

Few days ago the list of students participating in GSoC 2010 was officially published, and I’ve been accepted too :-). This will be my first summer of code which makes me very excited and happy. I would like to say few words about my proposal and preparation to GSoC in general.

So, first of all I was wondering which tactic is better: sending many proposals to many different organizations, or getting one proposal done best I could. I chose the second variant (although I planned opposite), because in my opinion, writing few proposals which have at least minor chance of being chosen, is very difficult and time consuming.

I decided to concentrate on FLOW3, a web application framework written in PHP, developed under the wings of TYPO3 Association. In my opinion it’s a very good example of high quality software engineering. But I’m just a student ;-).

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I proposed a project entitled “A generic i18n and l10n strategy for FLOW3 and TYPO3v5“. Actually that was subject proposed by the organization itself, but seemed very interesting for me, although quite demanding. For this reason (or maybe more because of Mentor’s advice), I wrote pretty detailed project timeline and tried to analyze possible obstacles. Now I have a general plan for every week of coding, which should be helpful.

So, you can find my accepted GSoC proposal on this page (where is a link to the PDF file).

New category on Learning FLOW3

This blog (Learning FLOW3) was generally meant to be a place for newcomers with tutorials, articles and tips about FLOW3. And it will be, but as for next few months I will be mainly devoted to my GSoC project, I decided to add a GSoC category to this blog, and post here from time to time about my progress. After the end of summer of code, I will post here tips for using of brand new i18n / l10n subsystem in FLOW3 ;-).

Wish me luck!
